This tiny, connected planet we live on…

"We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers."

Carl Sagan

Imagine you are a public servant who has spent years trying to start a conversation about what it is like to be a public servant, to find space where we can have honest (free & frank!?) conversations with our peers outside of the silos that keep us from imagining a better public service. You are so passionate about this that you have researched the experiences of public servants globally to try and find the commonalities, and you can see that it is the same experience for all of us, no matter where we are on this planet. Finally, you decide to take a leap of faith and write a book on the stories and experiences of public servants that you have collected over the years.

As part of that passion, you have been looking for your tribe and you could not find it in your own country so decided to look globally. You discover Apolitical, a network connecting public servants globally, providing a platform for the sharing of ideas and learning opportunities. You write an article for them on why you wrote your book, and Lisa Witter, the Co-founder of Apolitical tweets about it and introduces you on LinkedIn to Charles Landry, Co-founder of the Creative Bureaucracy Festival (and co-author with our Margie Caust on The Creative Bureaucracy & its radical commonsense – hint: available free on this website). Charles connects with you and encourages you to attend the 2023 Creative Bureaucracy Festival in Berlin. You do a mental health check with your kids, and they say GO! So, you take the leap to meet with like-minded public service enthusiasts, even if it means travelling to the other side of the planet, and it turns out to be a life changing experience. So good in fact that I decided to bring it home so those of us on this side of the planet can have a space to celebrate, innovate and share with each other our dreams for taking our public service cultures from a “No, because” to a “yes, if”.

I guess my point is that this planet is tiny, and thanks to their generosity of spirit, it is this easy to connect with global thought leaders and meet with others as passionate as you are about improving how and why we do public service. We look forward to engaging with YOU on what you want to see from YOUR Creative Bureaucracy Hub – got an idea for a blog or an event – let us know! This is for you, with you and by you. Welcome to your tribe.

Yours in service to the public
